MURIC vows to resist attempt to endorse Samoa Agreement with FG

Muslims Rights Concern (MURIC) has vowed to resist any attempt to sign Samoa Agreement with the Federal Government if it involves the legalisation of homosexual and lesbian practices.

Speaking through its Gombe State branch Chairman, Dr. Garba Abubakar Bajoga, MURIC said: “We of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), wish to unequivocally state that we do not support any deal that promotes LGBT rights in Nigeria. Our stance is firmly rooted in our religious belief and cultural values, which do not align with the principles and practices associated with LGBT rights. We urge the Nigerian government to respect and uphold the moral and religious values of its citizens.”

MURIC, in a statement signed by Dr. Bajoga recalled that the organisation had once rejected the idea of Nigeria accepting LGBT practices as far back as December 2023 when the concept was first mooted. The Islamic human rights organisation, while noting that it still stands by its rejection, said: “It will be recalled that MURIC headquarters had rejected the idea of Nigeria accepting LGBT practices as far back as December 2023 when the concept was first mooted. In a statement captioned ‘Shun LGBT Accord – MURIC’ and dated December 16, 2023, the Islamic human rights organisation described LGBT concept as ‘evil, immoral, Luciferous and abominable. We still stand by this rejection.”

It, however, acknowledged the explanation offered by the Minister of Information, Muhammed Idris, that the Samoa agreement signed by Nigeria has no connection whatsoever with the LGBT issue.

“Nonetheless, we must acknowledge the quick explanation offered yesterday by the Nigerian Minister of Information, Muhammed Idris, that the Samoa agreement signed by Nigeria has no connection whatsoever with LGBT issue, MURIC said.
