At Empower Her Conference, women charged to impact on nation-building

Women empowerment has been identified as a catalyst for national development, change, and prosperity, hence the need to equip more women with the right skillsets to contribute to Nation building.

This was the thrust at the Empower Her Conference held at the Redemption City, Ogun State recently.

Convener of the event, Tolulope Duncan, said there is a need for more women to be empowered, in the economic space, following insecurity, unemployment, inflation, and poverty. “You will agree with me that women too have to bring their quota to the table, that is why we put up this conference to ensure that women are relevant and financially stable. We want to ensure that at least 50 women are empowered in their entrepreneurship spaces.

Duncan further noted that while gender inequality cannot be eradicated, we hope for a minimal level so the voices of women can be heard. We believe that with sensitisation and awareness, we can reduce gender inequality and bias.

“The political leaders and government have a role to play by supporting initiatives like what we are doing here. Government has all the necessary resources and capacity to empower Nigerian women.”

Keynote speaker at the conference, Titilope Adeboye in her presentation, urged participants to have a clear vision and focus on what they want to achieve, stressing that they don’t need huge resources to succeed in their chosen entrepreneurship projects.

According to the programme facilitator, Bayo Babatunde, the essence is to empower women in business and to help them become better business managers that will make an impact on the economy. “I see participants who are eager to make an impact in society. I believe that if they put into practice what they have learned from this conference, there would be noticeable changes in their businesses and lives.

“Women are home builders, and if they are not provided with the necessary resources, information, and enabling environment to thrive, we will have the kind of society that we desire.”

He added that women must position themselves for opportunities and also spot a market gap that requires to be filled. “If entrepreneurs can spot a market gap, they can achieve some of their business goals and objectives.”
