Abure hails UK Prime Minister, Starmer over massive win


.Pledges to collaborate with UK Labour Party

The national chairman of Labour Party, Julius Abure, has congratulated UK Prime Minister-elect, Sir Keir Starmer, over Labour’s landslide victory in the general election.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Friday, Nigeria’s Labour Party leader, who had earlier predicted the UK Labour win, said that the victory is a constant reminder that the will of the people must always prevail.

According to him, the victory came after five years of conservative leadership which failed to deliver on its mandate

“As Labour UK takes over the mantle of leadership today, we celebrate this victory and congratulate the people of the United Kingdom for coming out to speak with their voices.

“I am optimistic that Sir Starmer will deploy his wealth of experience in handling the economic challenges in the UK, particularly the migration and unemployment crises in the country.

“We are also hoping that the bilateral relationship between the UK and Nigeria will improve more under the Labour government.

“We hope that Labour Party in Nigeria and the UK will continue to collaborate in the area of policy coordination and evaluation,” Abure said.

Labour was declared official winner of the poll after reaching the required 326 parliamentary seats.

Rishi Sunak, outgoing prime minister, said he takes responsibility for the loss of the Conservative Party.

“Britain has delivered a sobering verdict. On this difficult night, I’d like to express my gratitude to the people of Richmond and Northallerton constituency for your continued support.

“The Labour Party has won this general election and I’ve called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory,” Sunak said
