Ministry hands over delegation to NOC today as Team Nigeria departs for Paris

The Ministry of Sports Development will today in Abuja hand over the country’s delegation to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games to the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) ahead of the team’s departure for the Games.

A ministry official told The Guardian, yesterday, that the Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, accompanied by some top government officials, would conduct the official hand over to the NOC at the ministry’s office located inside the MKO Abiola Stadium.

She said that the home-based athletes and some of the overseas-based stars still in the country would be at the ceremony, which signifies the beginning of the country’s movement to Paris for the Games.

“The team will leave Nigeria for Germany on Tuesday (tomorrow) to continue their preparation for the Games.

“Some of the teams, including basketball, are already in the German camp, while others will start joining them from today. But the women football team, Super Falcons, will move to Paris after their two-week pre-Games camp in Spain,” she said.

The Guardian learnt that the Super Falcons, who arrived in Spain on Friday, had their first training session yesterday in Seville ahead of a friendly game against Canada on July 17. They will leave for France on July 18.

The Super Falcons’ Olympic journey begins on July 25 with a match against Brazil at the Stade Bordeaux. They will then face Spain on July 28 at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes, followed by their final group stage match against Japan at the same venue on July 31.
