The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old father for illegally chaining his son in Giade local council of the state.
The state’s police spokesman, Ahmed Wakil, in a statement on Monday, said the Command on Sunday, July 7, received a report of child abuse that on Saturday, July 6 around “5:20 pm, one Mamuda Abubakar, a 30-year-old resident of Abbo, Chinkani Ward, Giade LGA, Bauchi State, tied his six-year-old son with a chain inside a room at their residence.”
Police said that a detective team was dispatched to the scene of the incident, where the child was rescued and the suspect, Mamuda Abubakar, was arrested and is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi.
Wakil said the suspect confined the minor to prevent him from going to his maternal grandfather’s house.
“The suspect and the minor’s mother separated five years ago, and the mother has since remarried and no longer lives with her father.
“He explained that his son should not visit the grandfather’s house due to the lack of morality among the children there. When the son insisted on going, the suspect became furious and ultimately chained the minor,” Police said.
