The African Church Cathedral, Salem Church of Peace Freeman, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, yesterday, called for the restoration and sustainability of the environment as well as joint efforts with the government on tree planting.
The church also stressed the need to protect the world and make it more habitable for all.
Convener, African Church Cathedral Salem 2024 Youth Flower Harvest/Sustainability Park Relaunch, Babafemi Okegbenro, who spoke, yesterday, in Lagos, said: “We are supporting the Lagos State Government in achieving a greener, healthier and a cleaner Lagos and we are also supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 11 and 17 on climate change, climate action, good environment and wellbeing. We are helping in combating climate change.”
“This initiative was launched eight years ago and we do an evaluation every three years to plant new trees. Our church is over 100 and we try to make sure that our relics don’t go to waste as we use them with the help of the youths of the church.
“We want the public to know that planting trees helps the environment. We are calling on corporations and religious bodies to key into the initiative and not leave it alone to the government. Let’s help the environment and plant trees to sustain the environment.
“The space is open to the public on Sundays. I want them to learn from our initiative.”
