Rangers draw Comoros side as Remo Stars get Morocco’s ASFAR again

Nigerian champions, Enugu Rangers, will begin their campaign in the 2024/25 CAF Champions League with a fairly easy tie against Comoros’ Union Sportive de Zilimadjou in the opening round.

But their compatriots, Remo Stars, were handed a tough task when the draw pitted them against old foes, ASFAR of Morocco.

Rangers will play the first leg of the preliminary round at home and travel to Moroni, Comoros for the decisive leg.

Remo Stars met ASFAR two years ago and were eliminated after drawing the opening leg 1-1 in Rabat only to lose 0-1 in Ikenne.

In their current encounter, Remo Stars will host the Moroccans first, before traveling to Rabat for the second leg.

The winner over the two legs will proceed to the last qualifying round of the Champions League.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, El-Kanemi Warriors, will play against Benin Republic’s Dadje in the opening round. Nigeria’s second team, Enyimba FC are exempted from the first round.

The eight-time Nigerian champions will face the winner of Hafia of Guinea versus Rahimo of Burkina Faso’s first round tie.
