Nigeria’s shot putter, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, says winning medals at the Olympic Games is always for those who are well prepared for it.
Enekwechi, who is one of the seven Nigerian track and field stars making a return to the Olympics, is of the view that the 2024 Paris Games would be an Olympics of surprise to many people.
Enekwechi’s main aim going to Paris is to make history as the first Nigerian man to make the podium in a field event at the Games. He made the final on his debut at the last Olympic Games in Tokyo, but finished last (12th) in the final classification.
This time around, Enekwechi is dreaming of something different.
Enekwechi, who won Nigeria’s first gold medal at the recently concluded 23rd African Senior Athletics championships in Douala, Cameroon, told The Guardian that he was fully prepared to give his opponents the challenge needed in the battle for medals.
“What happened at my first appearance at Tokyo Olympics was a big lesson, and the Paris Games will surely be different. At the moment, I am among the best eight in the world. My first aim in Paris will be to make the final, and from there anything can happen. I am optimistic I will return from Paris with good news,” Enekwechi stated.
