In commemoration of his 50th birthday, lawyer and author of Practical Perspective on Youth, Odianose Dominic Matthew, recently, visited the Lagos Special Correctional Centre For Boys, Oregun, where he donated footballs, jerseys, food and drinks.
Speaking during a brief ceremony, he said children in the correctional centres need and expect love and care.
“We don’t want people who will come out from the correctional centre and become a menace or return back to where they come from to perpetuate more crimes.” He, therefore, advocated improved welfare, love and kindness to children, observing the centre has improved compared to previous years.
Mathew noted: “When they leave this facility well groomed, they will not want to engage in crime but aim for better things in life. The government is doing well. I want to enjoin all well- meaning individuals to support the state government.
“You don’t need to have all the money in the world. For instance, I do not have all the money in the world, but from the little I have, I can share.” He urged the inmates to be focused and ambitious including discovering their purpose in life. “You must sit down and think about it.
There are opportunities out there for you. This is just a phase of your life butleave whatever brought you here at the gate, when leaving.”
