MUSON graduates new music scholars, holds concert

It was two events in one as the 17th graduation and concert ceremony was held for the latest graduates of the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) Diploma School of Music last week.

At the concert, the new 29 graduates sponsored by MTN Foundation to attend the music school entertained the audience, showing their dexterity with playing different musical instruments as they performed classical and afrobeat pieces.

The Students’ President, Adebayo Gabriel, who joined the programme with two grade 5 certificates, left with 10 professional certificates, applauding the impact the training has had on his music career, as he has evolved into a truly professional artiste.He added that he is now proficient playing the double bass, electric bass, and producing music, directing choirs, as well as sound design.

In her address, the Executive Director, MTN Foundation,OdunayoSanya,said that the foundation has continue to sponsor the music training despite,”When you look at what’s happening in the country, there’s no reason to continue with this. But that just shows MTN’s dedication towards youth development.

“MUSON is like a diamond in the rough. Every year we polish and push out exceptional musical talents to the world. The journey has been 17 years long and it has just gotten stronger over the years.”

The Director, MUSON School of Music, Princess Banke Ademola, whorevealed that the school has 457 graduates through MTNF support since 2007, said the MUSON music school has blossom due to sponsors’ support.

Mr. Dennis Okoro, who represented Chairman MTN Foundation, said that the graduates have the potential to bring positive change to the world as they follow the footsteps of renounce artists and alumni

“You must use your talent and fame to make the difference in the society. Pursue your dream with passion.” The event was graced by distinguished guests, including alumni of the scholarship programme who spoke glowingly about the impact of the training on their career.
