Kanye West Hints At Retirement From Music

Popular artiste and producer, Kanye West, now going by the name “Ye,” has made his plans to retire from the music industry known to the public.

The revelation came to light through a screenshot of a private conversation between Ye and rapper Rich The Kid that was shared publicly.

The conversation that revealed Kanye’s retirement

In the iMessage conversation, Ye stated, “I am retiring from professional music. Not sure what else to do.” Attempting to persuade his longtime collaborator, Rich The Kid replied, “Retire? Why? How? The people need you. The music needs you, TY [Dollar $ign], and we have made it the biggest stamp in culture to this date in 2024.”

Kanye’s discography

Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, is one of the most influential artistes of his generation. Throughout his career, he has delivered commercially successful albums such as “The College Dropout,” “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” and “Yeezus.”

Kanye as a music producer

Beyond his work as a solo artist, Ye has also made contributions as a producer, collaborating with a diverse range of musicians, including his close friend Ty Dolla $ign. Their joint album, “Vultures,” released in 2023, is a blend of the two artistes musical styles.

Kanye started in the music industry as a record producer, before making a name for himself as a rapper. He played a major role in the production of Jay-Z’s album, “The Blueprint,” released in 2001.

In addition, Kanye has produced tracks like “Stand Up” (Ludacris featuring Shawna), “You Don’t Know My Name” (Alicia Keys), “Again” (Janet Jackson), and “Industry Baby” (Lil Nas X featuring Jack Harlow) among many others.

Ye’s retirement announcement comes at a time when he was seemingly at the peak of his creativity in both music and fashion. In recent years, he has gotten attention for his ventures in the fashion industry, launching his highly successful Yeezy brand in partnership with Adidas. However, the collaboration between them has ended due to the Anti-Semitic comments made by Kanye in 2022.
