These exhortations indicate there can be no real kingdom power in our battle against sin, Satan and the world, or victory in our attempt to win the lost, without much daily prayer.
3 • Would it not be pleasing to God in the light of the Lord’s plea that His disciples watch and pray at least “one hour” (see Mat 26:38-4). And in the light of the urgency of the end times in which we live, for every believer to pursue a life of intimacy with God by devoting at least one hour a day to prayer and the study of God’s word?
4 • One hour of prayer might include the following: (a) praise(b) singing to the Lord (c) thanksgiving (d) waiting upon God (e) reading the word (f) listening to the Holy Spirit (g) praying the very words of Scripture (h) confessing failings (i) interceding for others (j) petitioning for one’s own needs and (k) praying in tongues.
Don’t Let Anything Disrupt Your Regular Daily Prayer And Devotion
“Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days,” (Dan 6:10).
Daniel stood alone. Although he knew about the law against praying to anyone except the king, he continued to pray three times a day as he always had. Daniel had a disciplined prayer life. Our prayers are usually interrupted not by threats, but simply by the pressure of our schedules. Don’t let threats or pressures cut into your prayer time. Pray regularly, no matter what, for prayer is your lifeline to God. Daniel made no attempt to hide his daily routine from his enemies in government even though he knew he would be disobeying the new law.
his daily prayers would have been futile because surely the conspirators would have caught him at something else during the month. Also, hiding would have demonstrated that he was afraid of the other government officials. Daniel continued to pray because he could not look to the king for the guidance and strength that he needed during this difficult time. Only God could provide what he really needed.
The king’s decree did not cause Daniel to become timid and change his habit of praying; his windows remained open toward Jerusalem where the temple once stood (cf. 2 Chr. 6:21). Though he knew of the danger, he did not let anything keep him from presenting his petitions to God (cf. Phil 4:6). Likewise, we must not allow anything to cause us to neglect our daily prayer and devotion to God.
